Kristian Touborg

Kristian Touborg (b. 1987) currently lives and works in Copenhagen. Touborg has completed a Masters of Art at Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Design (2009-2016). He has also been assistant of acclaimed artist Tal R. In 2017 he received a working grant from The Danish Arts Foundation. During 2016 and 2017 he completed a residency at Taekker Air Berlin. Touborg’s paintings are made of a compilation of digitally printed fabrics and various industrially treated materials and cut up canvasses, which are then assembled through the use of collage techniques. The collected montage of textural fragments is then stretched on frames, which are characterized by their atypical shapes. As Touborg expands and reconstructs the canvasses into awkward polygonal shapes, he differentiates and takes ownership of both the finished compositions and the incorporated fragments, as they differ themselves further from their various origins, blatantly disregarding whether this is a celebrated art historical masterpiece or a snapshot of a melted dumpster distorting the aesthetic of the streets of Copenhagen.
