My grandma had an expensive taste (particularly when it came to cozying up her home), even though she wasn’t rich. Among her Scandinavian-designed interior, she had this bright purple high-pile rug and small orange decorations, little trinkets she collected during her time living in the UK, and two comfy Eames Lounge chairs that we’d sit in during our endless TV sessions. She loved spoiling us. She also spoiled her two red cats. They were mean furry assholes so my memories of that warm, slick and comfortable space will forever be scratched with a quiet hostility - sharing love for the same place and person, but sharing also hostile feelings towards each other.
