Xinzhu Yan (b.1997, Chong Qing) is a Chinese artist. She currently lives and works in Seoul, South Korea. Xinzhu studied Animation at the highly prestigious fine art University Hubei Institute of Fine Arts China in 2017. Xinzhu continued to study Film & Animation with a major in Design, Art, and Media at the Hongik University, in South Korea until 2021. In addition, she completed a degree in Painting from Hongik University in 2023 and is currently studying Fine Art at Painting and Fine Art at Hongik University. Xinzhu Yan’s art explores the intricate themes of female bodies and self-identity, shedding light on the multitude of pressures and limitations that women face in society. By using bold lines and vibrant colours, she depicts exaggerated and distorted figures, capturing the diverse and complex nature of the female body within the context of societal expectations. In her series "Boxed Girl," she depicts a woman trapped in a box, which evokes emotions of restriction and confinement, while also expressing the deep yearning for self-identity and autonomy. Xinzhu Yan firmly believes that true equality and freedom can only be achieved when we genuinely recognize and respect the bodies and identities of women.
