Many Christian believe that they should ‘follow in the footsteps of Jesus'. Metaphorically understood, that means to try to behave as he did. But literally understood, that means rejecting footprints that can be found in the fossil record, which are often dismissed as ‘tricks of Satan’. Those same fundamentalists believe that the universe is about 6000 years old and that humans and dinosaurs walked together - an impressive feat since hominid footprints date back 800,000 years, whilst dinosaur’s date back over one hundred million. Petry’s fossilised footprints of Jesus would place him deeply in the past, raising questions about how belief and science function.
