My dad was a line-producer in film in Portugal, and in my late teens, he involved me in work with the art department
on set while shooting commercials. So it wasn’t a surprise that I went to study Production Design at the Dutch Film Academy not long after. This really influenced the way I work (making quick decisions, how I look at composition, not taking things too seriously, etc), and also made me determined that I never want to work in film again. I think making films and whatever comes with it can be
amazing, and on set it feels like magic when you’re with the right group of dedicated, creative, hard-working people. But it also attracts a high concentration of ego-maniacs, letting themselves act out in ways that should never see the daylight. I got out before it deflated me, but I’m also thankful for what it gave me. And that’s my huge ego (joking(maybe?)).“
