Audun Alvestad

Audun Alvestad (b.1980, Aalesund) is a Norwegian painter who received his MFA form the Kunsthogskolen in Bergen in 2016, after studying at the Det kongelige Danske Kunstakademi, Copenhagen (2015) and receiving his BFA from the Kunsthogskolen I Bergen, Avd Kunstakademiet in 2009. Alvestad's paintings typically centre around "average Joe" types engaged in everyday tasks such as mowing the lawn, ironing shirts, or bathing. He has referenced his interest in exploring society's changing gender roles and social structures as the reason for focusing on this subject. Additionally, he relies on generic types because they provide more space to play with the formal aspects of the painting.

Highlights and collections.

In 2017 Audun Alvestad received a 3-year working grant for young artist from the Arts Council Norway, Prosjektstøtte, Norwegian association of Artists. In addition, in 2016 Audun Alvestad was granted Statens utstillingsstipend, from the Arts Council Norway, Prosjektstøtte. Alvestad's work can be found in many public and private collections amongst them the Bunker Artspace; the Preuss Collection, the Azman Museum, the Drake and the Lohia Collection.

Martine Poppe

Martine Poppe (b. 1988, Norway) has been living and working in London and Oslo. Poppe graduated from the Slade School of Fine Art BA and MFA in 2011 and 2013 respectively. Poppe’s works are developed from the fluidity between the different materials she employs, negotiating the boundaries between abstraction and representation. The artist’s source materials, which are often photographs or textiles, instigate her process. Climate is at the heart of Poppe’s subject matter. The artist takes photographs of nature, processing the images digitally, twisting the pixels until the photograph is at the brink of becoming illegible. Once printed out, these large scale photographs are affixed behind translucent fabrics on stretchers, creating a screen that Poppe can see through and work on with paint. Poppe's paintings carry the effects of diffracted light and overexposed photography, as well as the pixelation of blown-up digital images. The photographs, as well as other surplus materials are later recycled as standing barriers or scrunched up shapes in the exhibition space.

Poppe’s works can be found in the collections of UK Government Art Collection (UK), KODE Museums (Norway), the Saatchi Collection (UK), Benetton Collection (Italy), the Kistefos Museum (Norway), NRKs Kunstsamling (Norway), House of St. Barnabas Collection (UK), CCA Andratx (Spain), UCL Art Collection (UK) and Oxford University Collection (UK). Poppe has been the receiver of multiple esteemed grants and awards including a grant from Ingrid Lindbäck Langaards Stiftelse in 2021 and 2022, the grant for young artists from the Norwegian Arts Council in 2017. In 2015, Poppe was shortlisted for the East London Painting Prize. She awarded the Juvenarte Price in Norway in 2010 and 2011.

Sinta Tantra

Sinta Tantra (b. 1979, New York) is a British artist of Balinese descent. She studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London between 1999–2003 and later continued her studies in art at the Royal Academy Schools in London, graduating in 2006. Tantra describes herself as a painter working on an architectural scale. By using abstract geometric style, exploring colour, identity, and narratives, she questions the function of spaces in her work. Sinta Tantra is highly regarded for her site-specific murals and installations in the public realm.

Tantra is a recipient of many awards including the Bridget Riley Drawing Fellow at The British School at Rome (2017); Shortlisted for the Jerwood Contemporary Painting Prize (2015); British Council’s International Development Award (2014); First Prize, Painting and Decorating Industry Award (2012);The Royal British Society of Sculptors AHRBS (2012);Shortlisted for the Jerwood Contemporary Painting Prize (2010); British Council Grant (2009); Courvoisir ‘The Future 500’ in partnership with The Observer Newspaper (2009); Arts Council England (2007); and Deutsche Bank Award (2006), The Gordon Luton Award, The Worship Company Painters Stainers Trust (2006); Michael Moser Award (2005); Paul Smith Scholarship at the Royal Academy of Arts (2003-2006) and the Henry Moore Sculpture Fund (2002). In 2018 she received an artist residency at the Stoneleaf Retreat, New York (2018). Sinta Tantra’s work has been featured in both UK and international press including The Evening Standard, Tate Shots, FAD Magazine, The Jakarta Post and BBC Radio Indonesia.

Tuan Vu

Tuan Vu was born in Saigon, Vietnam. His preferred mediums are drawing, painting, and photography, which does not prevent him from touching also on design and architecture. Although he has attended several drawing, painting, and photography workshops at the University of Montreal over the years, he remains essentially a self-taught artist. His pieces were first seen at an auction he organized in 2010 to help people in Haiti hit by a devastating earthquake.

Highlights and Collections

In 2019, Tuan VU gave a lecture on Photography and Intuition at the ALPA Photo Club in Longueuil. In 2021, he was named artist of the month at YES Montreal and gave an interview to LeZarts on MATV as a guest artist, additionally he received a Merit for his participation in the Luxembourg Art Prize (2021 and 2022). In 2022, he was a guest artist for the conference on photography and painting at Women's Art Society Montreal (WASM). Furthermore, he was selected among the finalist artists for the 30th-anniversary edition of the London-based magazine ArtMaze (2022) and Friends of Artists (FOA) (2023).
