Dawit Abebe
Dawit Abebe, born in 1978, graduated from the Alle School of Fine Art and Design at Addis Ababa University with a diploma in painting, sculpture, graphics, photography and industrial design. His work relies on vibrant, lively colours, which at times contradict the dark subject matter, addressing contemporary concerns about the environment, such as high-tech urbanisation and our idea of progress. In 2019 he was picked by Artnet as one of the two most important artists working out of Ethiopia today, and in 2017 he was named “Chevalier of Frances Order of Arts and Letters”. In 2001, he founded the Habesha Art Studio in his native Ethiopia, where he continues to be a full-time artist-in-residence. In addition to numerous successful international exhibitions across Africa, Europe and the Middle East, Abebe has also worked with charities such as UNICEF to hold workshops for street children in Arba Minch, Jinka and Addis Ababa.

Gerald Chukwuma
Gerald Chukwuma (b. 1973) lives and works in Lagos, Nigeria. He graduated in 2003 with First Class Honours from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Chukwuma is one of Nigeria's fastest rising contemporary artists, noted for his intricately crafted sculptures on wood panels. The materials he chooses are common enough; however, using in his unique way a range of techniques — including burning, chiselling and painting — he captures a richly layered history that is imbedded with personal and political meaning. The use of traditional Uli and Nsibidi symbols links his work to the Nsukka art tradition which is credited with expanding and modernising the Igbo cultural aesthetic. Meanwhile, the transformation of found objects into highly detailed artworks roots him firmly in the contemporary moment, with its concern for rapid environmental and ecological change. Throughout his work — which embraces painting, sculpture and collage — Chukwuma explores migration as a constant process of transformation and reinvention. With the implications of globalisation on his local community always in mind, Chukwuma transforms everyday materials to render new stories of Nigeria's sociopolitical landscape. The artist is drawn to the movements of people through voluntary and forced migration as a vital stage in the progress of our collective humanity. This sense of optimism is imbued in his work by his playfully illustrative characters, drawn from a wide variety of visual forms present in Nigeria's deep cultural history.

Audun Alvestad
Audun Alvestad (Aalesund, 1980) is a Norwegian painter who received his MFA form the Kunsthogskolen i Bergen in 2016, after studying at the Det kongelige Danske Kunstakademi, Copenhagen (2015) and receiving his BFA from the Kunsthogskolen I Bergen, Avd Kunstakademiet (2009). Alvestad's paintings typically centre around "average Joe" types doing everyday tasks such as mowing the lawn, ironing shirts, or bathing. He has referenced his interest in exploring society's changing gender roles and social structures as the reason for focusing on this subject. Additionally, he relies on generic types because they give him more space to play with formal aspects of the painting.

JOACHIM LAMBRECHTS
Joachim Lambrechts (born in 1986) is a renowned urban artist from Antwerp, Belgium. In 2001 he went to art school in Antwerp but left by 2004 without ever graduating. In the years that followed, Joachim spent a lot of time experimenting with various approaches to graffiti and managed to introduce himself into the Belgian street art scene relatively quickly. Since 2010, in addition to creating street art in various European cities, painting on canvas became Joachim’s main activity. The big difference with his murals is that Joachim never makes preliminary studies or sketches when he starts working on a canvas. Paradoxically, he feels freer (and less inhibited) within the four walls of his studio. We see that feeling reflected in his paintings. They radiate a more naive feeling and come about in a much more spontaneous way. His first solo show came in 2014, the same year he decided to become a full-time artist. Since then, his works have been exhibited in numerous group and solo shows both at home and abroad.
