Crossed keys: I’m really enjoying developing my drawing practice and I’ve recently learnt how to draw in one-point perspective (where all objects come out from a point on your chosen ‘horizon’ line). The horizon, I’m sure for a lot of us, makes me think of mortality. And generally this year mortality has felt more present than ever. However I really liked the idea of subverting a classical ‘grim reaper’ story where the person on the end of their journey is actually the one more in the know: they’re holding crossed keys behind their back. This was also an intended pun on the classical motif of st. Peter’s keys to the kingdom of heaven.
