Natascha Schmitten was born in Bonn in 1986 and is currently based in Cologne, Germany. In 2014, Schmitten graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf. Her paintings reside on a boundary between figuration and abstraction, displaying multiple layers of semi-transparent, flowing colour and creating a pictorial space that is constantly fluctuating. “My vision is always moving between ‘real’ space and pictorial space, which becomes more or less abstract” – says the artist. Schmitten was awarderded multiple artist residences and awards, including STRABAG Art Award in 2017.
