Miranda Forrester

Miranda Forrester is a figurative painter living and working in London. She graduated from the University of Brighton with a BA in Fine Art Painting. Forrester explores the queer Black female gaze, confronting the erasure of Black women from the Western art historical canon and picturing what the male gaze has historically refused to see. Working on translucent polycarbonate sheeting, her surfaces dissolve the boundary between figure and ground, embracing deliberate ambiguity around gender, sexuality, and identity. Drawing on Renaissance compositional traditions while radically reconfiguring who occupies those spaces, her work celebrates Black women and non-binary people as unbounded, self-possessed, and held within environments that honour their presence.
