Hanna Luxton (b. 1986, London, UK) works and lives in Essex in England. She received an MA in Fine Art from the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London, in 2012, following a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Kingston University in 2009 and a BTEC Diploma in Foundation Art and Design from Middlesex University in 2006. Hannah Luxton’s paintings are inspired by philosophies such as Romanticism and animism, which intimate a living soul in natural phenomena. She explores ways to depict a spiritual power at the heart of the material universe — nature imbued with a divine power. Using pared-down mark making to communicate the essence of the building blocks of the natural world, she hints at a spiritual dimension beyond appearance and finds her subjects in her observations of the sublime in landscape, from oceans and waterfalls to mountains and craters to the moon and stars, condensing and abstracting each referent into an archetypal version of itself.
