In collaboration, By Lara Sedbon gallery and Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery invite Rebecca Brodskis to take over the three floors of the Bastille Design Center with a unique exhibition blending various modes of expression.
A true carte blanche in the broadest sense, this exhibition aims to go beyond the normal pictorial boundaries. For over a year, Brodskis has been creating works in acknowledgement of and in response to the choreographic practice of the dancer Lilach Pnina Livne. Specifically for this space, the two have worked together to create an exhibition focusing on the body and the concept of unconditional love. The idea of this collaboration was rooted a decade ago during one of Pnina Livne’s performances. Having been deeply moved by the experience of this, Brodskis, years later, decided to paint Pnina Livne’s portrait with the hope of continuing their dialogue.
The second person invited by Brodskis was the designer, Alphonse Maitrepierre. In a similar manner to Brodskis, he works with the human form to celebrate it. In this exhibition, he dresses the performers through reference to Brodskis’ works.
Through an intergenerational curiosity, Brodskis looks to the Millennials, markedly different to her own despite their closeness in age. She invites Nona Cornée, Anna Gianforcaro and Lulma Guit to reflect their perceptions of relationships through performance art. Naturally, creating a resonance with the works of Brodskis.
